For my giveback piece, I have provided two PowerPoint presentations.
The first, “Bias Reflection” is a reflection piece that discusses the topic of implicit biases within healthcare and applies it to a nursing case study. This presentation utilizes a critical thinking lens with the post-colonial filter, to explore the impacts of racism and colonialism on Indigenous healthcare experiences. The project highlights the implications of implicit biases within healthcare and provides strategies to identify and manage these biases to prevent adverse outcomes.
The second, “Alcoholism Amongst Residential School Survivors” discusses the impacts of residential schools on Indigenous survivors. This presentation dives deeper into the root causes of alcoholism, emphasizing the topics of colonialism, racism, and marginalization. Further, this project illustrates traditional Indigenous medicine, health and healing, cultural practices, and community strengths. Finally this project discusses strategies to improve Indigenous healthcare experiences.
